Recently, one of my friends was brooding about something totally idiotic. I always share this story with all. I did with him too. This is one of the stories that has shaped my life. Ok now the story 😛
Oh and yes, just take the message in the story and not the minute details of the story 🙂 Let us not debate on why this, why not this.
A Guru (Teacher) and his disciple are on their way back to the ashram after praying to the Almighty. They have to cross a river as usual to get to the ashram. On the banks of the river, is a lovely damsel who has hurt her knee. She requests the Guru to help her cross the river. The Guru takes her in his arms, and helps her cross the river. The damsel thanks the Guru and leaves.
The Guru and his disciple start back to their destination. The disciple looks utterly troubled with this act of his Guru. He was the one who had taught him all the values in life, the one who had asked him to pray all life day in, day out. He had once preached all his disciples to give up all pleasures in life and devote all their life to serving and praying to the Almighty, and here he was breaking the rules himself.
The disciple keeps all the frustartion to himself as they head back home. As they continue their journey, the disciple doesn’t talk a word to the Guru. They finally reach the ashram after a couple of hours, and the Guru finally asks the disciple, “Tell me son, what is bothering you all this while. Speak out”
Disciple: “Guruji, it is about the ugly act of yours today. We always believed you practiced whatever you preached. But what I saw today, has disappointed me tremendous.”
Guruji: “What are you talking about son? What act are you talking about?”
Disciple: “Guruji, it is the woman. You told us to never be with a woman and to focus all our life to devotion”
The Guru smiles and says,
“I carried her only across the river. You are still carrying her in your thoughts, that’s the difference”
This story is stuck in my thoughts forever though 🙂 Reminds me that the world is always simple. If you just live your life joyfully, have your head in the right place, and learn to let go, every moment would be totally worth it. Never grow a poison tree against someone. Its their life, let them live it the way they want to.
YOU live your life king size 🙂
